The City of Columbus has opened entries for the Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Oratorical Contest slated for Saturday, December 16, 2017
to students from schools all over central Ohio grades K-12 to celebrate the
legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The contest which is being sponsored, since year 2000, by
the Friends of the Community Relations Commission to showcase the rhetorical
skills of the best and brightest students has as theme for 2017, “MLK50: Legacy
of Love in Pursuit of Justice.” Deadline for submission of materials will be
Monday, November 27, 2017. Registration
materials are available for download at www.columbus.gov/neighborhoods/events.
Participants at the event which will be held at the Fort
Hayes Performing Arts Theater, Columbus, Ohio will be judged on various
criteria ranging from voice quality and relevance and accuracy of content.
The three winners from each category; Primary (K-2nd),
Intermediate (Grades 3rd – 5th), Junior (Grades 6th
– 8th) and Senior (Grades 9th to 12th) will go
on to represent Columbus in the statewide competition in April 2018.
Also, the winners will have opportunity to speak at the
MLK breakfast and afternoon celebration on Saturday, January 15, 2018.
